A password alone may not protect sensitive information from hackers – Multi-factor authentication (for example 2 Factor authentication) is strongly recommended.
The numerous data breaches over the last few years prove at least one thing: Passwords alone cannot protect you – and 2019 will be just as fraught with cybersecurity issues as the year before. Security researcher Troy Hunt discovered yet another major breach, ominously titled “Collection #1,” in which nearly 773 million email addresses and 21 million passwords were exposed.
But luckily there is an easier way to protect yourself — one that only involves a few minutes of preparation for some peace of mind when it comes to your online identity. We’re talking about multi-factor authentication. Continue reading to learn more about the benefits of multi-factor authentication.
It’s nearly impossible to truly secure an online account without a very strong password. Data breaches, malware, device theft, and a myriad of other methods can be used to compromise digital passwords, no matter how secure they are.
Anyone with sensitive information protected by a password should have a second method of securing their account, hence two-factor authentication.
Nimbus makes provision for multi-factor, where the pin code can be either emailed or sent by SMS.
In addition, if you have configured your login to use an Authenticator App, like Authy or Google Authenticator, the passkey generated by your Authenticator app can be entered instead of a password. This is a good option for people who hate to remember passwords.
Nimbus provides the option for both 6-digit and 8-digit authentication (with the 8-digit option being the most secure). On initial login, scan the QR code with your Authenticator App and enter the passkey. For future login, you only need to enter the code generated by the app.
If your mobile device is secured with either fingerprint or face recognition, then this is effectively an additional factor of authentication. So, using an Authenticator app on a secured device means that you do not need to remember a password.
Regardless of the method, one thing is for sure: The benefits of multi-factor authentication really outweigh the inconvenience for users as onerous penalties could apply in the event of a data breach.
We hope these tips have helped shed some light into the benefits of multi-factor authentication.
